Chinese International School

Chinese International School was founded in 1983 as a small “East meet West”
school grounded with roots in Hong Kong and has now grown to a vibrant community
with over 15,000 students aged 4-18. The school has one main campus in Hong Kong,
offering a bilingual program that integrates both Mandarin and English instructions.
The school is known for its commitment to academic excellence and its
implementation of the International Baccalaureate (IB) programs, including
the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) and the IB Diploma Programme (DP).
The school encourages students to be critical thinkers, lifelong learners, and
responsible global citizens, cultivating qualities such as curiosity, creativity, and
empathy. The school is dedicated to nurturing students who are well-equipped to

Principal’s speech

Sean Lynch

My name is Sean Lynch and it has been my privilege to serve as Head of School at CIS since the summer of 2018.

On behalf of our community, I am delighted to welcome you and hope that your exploration of our website will capture the vibrant and inclusive spirit of our school, as well as shed light on what makes us such a special place for engaged, inquisitive and compassionate learners of all ages.

We were founded by three visionaries in 1983, have earned worldwide recognition for bilingual, intercultural, future-ready education of the highest calibre, and are composed of some 1550 students, 1000 families and 450 staff, not to mention 5000 alumni and countless friends across the globe.

Much of our excellence is timeless, aiming to help each of our pupils, and indeed each of us who is associated with CIS, to lead a life that is flourishing, fulfilling and meaningful for self, family, community and planet alike, regardless of the challenges and opportunities we may encounter as the 21st century unfolds.

Yet we also take the greatest possible advantage of our context, by which we mean 1) the extraordinary city of Hong Kong, 2) that unrivalled region of creativity and innovation known as the Greater Bay Area, and 3) thanks to the location of our Year 10 campus, what 13th century Venetian adventurer Marco Polo once described as the most beautiful metropolis under the heavens: Hangzhou.

As our beloved school song reminds us every day in two languages: “我們來自東方,我們來自西方,互相學習,相得益彰. We come from the East, we come from the West, we learn from each other, and that way is best.”

Please consider joining Chinese International School and contact us at any time should you have the slightest question. In the meanwhile, we wish you all the best for a truly inspirational discovery and thank you very much for your deeply appreciated interest.
