ESF King George V School

King George V School was established in 1902 and is part of the English Schools
Foundation (ESF). Students study the International Baccalaureate Middle Years
Programme (MYP) for three years. The MYP builds upon the knowledge, skills and
attitudes developed in the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) and prepares students
to meet future academic challenges, including IGCSE, BTEC and the IB Diploma
Programme (DP). The school personalises learning so each and every person is
supported and encouraged to achieve at a high level, and to develop holistically to be
the best person they can be.

Mark Poulsum

Welcome to King George V (KGV) School. As Principal of KGV, I am delighted to be able to write a few lines to introduce you to the school. KGV is a dynamic and exciting place, where over 1850 students and 250 staff call home. KGV is also diverse, with over 35 different cultures and backgrounds represented in our learning community. This diversity provides a vibrancy and energy, and as our vision states, “our school thrives on a culture where a diversity of ideas, beliefs, and values are equally cherished, respected, and heard”.

KGV School has a long and interesting history, starting as a small school in Tsim Sha Tsui in 1894, and growing and adapting with Hong Kong and moving to our current site in 1935. We are proud of our history, and excited about our future. We are determined to make KGV a place where each and every student can ‘be their own remarkable’ and be the best version of themselves. This work is about connecting with each student and striving to create what we call a ‘school for one; a place where each student feels that the school was created just for them’. Ensuring every person in our school community feels this sense of belonging and purpose, underpins our priority to promote inclusivity and equity is all that we do.

We are proud of how our students and staff work together to produce outstanding results. Our graduating students attend some of the best universities here in Hong Kong, and around the world. The relationship we build with parents is characterised by the term ‘your child, our student’, and this symbolises the open, honest, and productive partnerships we have with our parents and guardians.

The school also offers a world of opportunity in the arts, sport, academics, and service to our community. Extra-curricular activities are a significant part of what makes KGV a great school, and promotes the fact that learning happens inside and outside of the classroom. Our students enjoy coming to school and participating in all aspects of school life.

Finally, I always feel a deep sense of privilege and honour, to be the Principal of a school that has such a proud history, and a very exciting future. Like you, our school is on a learning journey, as we strive every day to be an even better place, for our students and the community we serve.

If you would like to visit our school or learn more, please contact our admissions team.

Kind regards,

Mark Poulsum
